Retirement Planning Services
Comprehensive solutions designed to help you achieve financial security and confidence in retirement.
Retirement planning involves many interconnected decisions. Should you consolidate your pensions? When should you start drawing income? How should your investments be structured? What about inheritance tax?
Our services are designed to address these questions and provide clear, actionable recommendations tailored to your specific circumstances.
Comprehensive Pension Review
A thorough analysis of all your pension arrangements to identify opportunities, risks, and potential improvements.
We examine every pension you hold, whether from current or previous employers, personal pensions, or stakeholder schemes. You'll receive a detailed report showing current values, projected retirement income, fund charges, investment performance, and any valuable guarantees or protected benefits.
This service includes recommendations on whether consolidation would benefit you, identification of high-fee arrangements, and comparison of your current trajectory against your retirement income goals.
Retirement Income Planning
Strategic planning to ensure your pension savings provide sustainable income throughout retirement.
We model different withdrawal strategies, showing you how various approaches would affect your income sustainability over time. This includes analysis of drawdown versus annuity options, State Pension timing, and coordination of multiple income sources.
You'll see projections under different scenarios including varying life expectancies, market conditions, and spending patterns. The goal is to find the optimal balance between enjoying your retirement and ensuring your money lasts.
Pension Consolidation Service
Expert guidance on combining multiple pension pots into a single, more manageable arrangement.
Many people accumulate several small pensions throughout their career, each with different charges, investment options, and administrative requirements. Consolidation can simplify management, reduce overall fees, and make it easier to implement a coherent investment strategy.
We analyse each pension to identify any valuable features that would be lost through transfer, handle all paperwork and provider communications, and ensure the consolidation is completed smoothly. This service includes ongoing monitoring until all transfers are confirmed.
Tax-Efficient Drawdown Strategy
Sophisticated planning to minimise tax liability while accessing your pension savings.
How you withdraw money from your pension can significantly impact your tax bill. We design strategies that consider your personal allowance, tax bands, interaction with State Pension, and other income sources.
This service includes multi-year tax planning showing exactly how much to withdraw each tax year, strategies to avoid pushing yourself into higher tax brackets unnecessarily, and coordination with other financial decisions like ISA withdrawals or property sales.
Defined Benefit Pension Transfer Analysis
Specialist advice on whether transferring out of a final salary pension scheme serves your interests.
Defined benefit pensions provide guaranteed income, but some people consider transferring to a personal pension for greater flexibility or inheritance benefits. This is a complex decision requiring FCA-regulated specialist advice.
Our Pension Transfer Specialists conduct comprehensive analysis comparing the guaranteed income against the transfer value, examining your health, life expectancy, family circumstances, and financial goals. In most cases, remaining in the defined benefit scheme proves advantageous, but circumstances vary.
This service includes detailed cash flow modelling, risk analysis, and a formal recommendation report meeting FCA requirements.
Investment Portfolio Review
Professional assessment of your pension investments and recommendations for appropriate adjustments.
Investment strategy should evolve as you approach and enter retirement. The aggressive growth approach suitable in your thirties may be inappropriate when you're five years from retirement.
We review your current asset allocation, fund selection, risk level, and costs. You'll receive specific recommendations on rebalancing, reducing volatility, improving diversification, or switching to more cost-effective funds.
Ongoing Investment Management
Discretionary management of your pension and retirement portfolios with regular rebalancing and monitoring.
Rather than one-off advice, this service provides continuous oversight of your investments. We actively manage your portfolio, making adjustments in response to market conditions, rebalancing to maintain appropriate risk levels, and ensuring your investment strategy remains aligned with your retirement timeline.
You'll receive quarterly performance reports, annual strategy reviews, and have direct access to your portfolio manager. The annual fee is charged as a percentage of assets under management, calculated and deducted quarterly.
State Pension Optimisation
Analysis of your State Pension entitlement and strategies to maximise your lifetime State Pension income.
The State Pension forms the foundation of most people's retirement income, yet many don't claim their full entitlement. We review your National Insurance record, identify any gaps, and advise whether voluntary contributions would be cost-effective.
We also analyse the optimal age to start claiming, considering your health, other income sources, and life expectancy. Deferring State Pension increases the weekly amount, but whether this strategy benefits you depends on individual circumstances.
Inheritance Tax Planning
Strategies to minimise inheritance tax liability while maintaining financial security during your lifetime.
Pensions generally sit outside your estate for inheritance tax purposes, creating planning opportunities. We design strategies that balance minimising tax with ensuring you retain sufficient resources for your own needs.
This includes analysis of gifting strategies, pension nomination forms, interaction with other assets, and coordination with broader estate planning. We work alongside your solicitor if you're updating your will as part of this process.
Retirement Planning for Business Owners
Specialist advice for self-employed individuals and business owners planning their exit and retirement.
Business owners face unique challenges including irregular income, potential business sale proceeds, and the need to coordinate business exit timing with retirement planning.
We help structure pension contributions to maximise tax relief, plan for the transition from business income to pension income, and integrate potential sale proceeds into your retirement strategy. This service includes analysis of how to extract value from your business tax-efficiently.
Annual Pension Health Check
Regular review to ensure your pension strategy remains on track and adapts to changing circumstances.
Life circumstances change. You might receive an inheritance, experience health issues, or decide to retire earlier than planned. Markets fluctuate. Tax rules evolve. Regular reviews ensure your strategy remains appropriate.
This annual service includes updated projections, review of investment performance, assessment of whether you're on track for your retirement goals, and recommendations for any adjustments needed.
Retirement Transition Planning
Comprehensive planning for the twelve months before and after your retirement date.
The transition from employment to retirement involves numerous decisions compressed into a short timeframe. This service provides step-by-step guidance through the entire process.
We coordinate timing of pension access, manage tax considerations for final employment year, handle provider notifications, set up income payments, and ensure smooth transition from accumulation to drawdown phase. You'll have a detailed timeline showing exactly what needs to happen and when.

Choosing the Right Service
Not sure which service you need? Most new clients begin with either a Comprehensive Pension Review or Retirement Income Planning, depending on how close they are to retirement.
If you're more than five years from retirement, a Pension Review typically makes sense. This identifies issues early while there's still time to make adjustments.
If you're within five years of retirement or already retired, Retirement Income Planning becomes the priority. The focus shifts from accumulation to sustainable withdrawal.
During your initial consultation, we'll discuss your situation and recommend the most appropriate starting point. There's no obligation to proceed, and the initial meeting is free of charge.
Service Questions
We charge fixed fees for advice services, quoted in advance and agreed before we begin work. The only exception is our Ongoing Investment Management service, which charges an annual percentage fee. This fee-based model ensures our recommendations are independent and based solely on your interests, not on commissions from product providers.
Yes, in most cases advice fees can be paid directly from your pension if you prefer. This can be tax-efficient as the payment comes from your pension fund before tax. However, it does reduce the amount available for retirement income. We discuss payment options during the initial consultation and help you decide the most appropriate approach.
Nothing at all. The initial consultation is free and comes with no obligation. We use this meeting to understand your situation and explain how we might help. You're under no pressure to proceed, and many people use this meeting simply to understand their options better.
Not necessarily. Some clients need only a single service, while others benefit from combining several. For example, a Pension Review might identify that consolidation would be beneficial, leading to our Consolidation Service. We recommend only the services that genuinely address your needs and won't suggest unnecessary work.
Timescales vary depending on service complexity and provider responsiveness. A straightforward Pension Review typically takes three to four weeks from initial meeting to delivery of recommendations. More complex services like Defined Benefit Transfer Analysis can take two to three months, partly because we need to obtain detailed information from your current scheme. We provide estimated timescales during the initial discussion.
